We aim at advancing the state of knowledge in the specific fields of: cities, transport, energy, climate and industrial innovation. Our members represent government bodies, research organizations, universities, non-profits, and private companies from 40 countries, in Europe and beyond, as well as international organizations. Proper integration of sex and gender analysis in research stimulates the creation of gender-responsible science and technology, and by doing so enhance the lives of both men and women around the globe. Integration of sex and gender analysis ensures excellence and quality in outcomes and enhances sustainability of research and engineering; makes research more responsive to social needs; and contributes to the economy by developing new ideas, patents, and technology. Excellent research fully considers the potential biological sex and social gender elements to maximize its impact and societal benefit. Not including the sex/gender dimension into the methodology, content, and impact assessment of research can lead to poor research and missed opportunities. In order that any assumptions made or issues addressed are based on the best available evidence, the sex-gender dimension has to be fully considered. Our overall objective is to advance on the state of the art on knowledge and practice for the integration of gender perspectives into cities and spatial planning, thus contributing to the great societal challenges identified by Horizon 2020. We will map the state of the art on gender and cities in Europe and develop working collaborations between different partners in order to develop sound research proposals on different specific topics within the wider area of gender, cities and spatial planning. The specific tasks will be carried out in two phases. The first (November 2012-November 2014) will be to assess the status of sex gender issues with regard to research and practice in urban development in each of the participating member states for this COST action. This will be facilitated by:
  • Meetings of experts on gender and policy making in the fields of urban planning and design and urban development
  • Short Term Scientific Missions
  • Working Group meetings
  • Presentations at main conferences in urban development
  • Meetings with decision makers on European research in the field of urban development.
The second phase (November 2014-November 2016) will be focussed on dissemination. This will include:
  • Presentations at major conferences for researchers and policy makers in urban development
  • A major international conference on Gender and Sustainable Development

Project description:

Science camps are one answer to the lack of young peoples interest in STEM, trying to engage them in scientific questions and helping them develop a positive attitude towards these fields. Not only the career decisions, but also the development of scientific literacy is the aim of these camps. Being held by many and various organizations, science camps have no common strategy, no continuing financial support nor a scientifically prove for the outcome. The project wants to establish a network with three aims:
  1. Connect different camp organizers to form a strong connection among European countries, exchange best practices and researches on development of these camps.
  2. Connect summer camps to local companies with technical and science products as well as regional universities, technical universities and other academic institutions working in the STEM field.
  3. Extract practical ideas and research-based results from the science camp inquire based programs to bring them to classroom practice in schools located to the science camps regions.
The partners have a wide regional range as well as a background from public to private and from universities to non-profit-organizations. They are experienced in science camps, science contests and have all in all thousands of participants per year. The project will be organized through three pan-European conferences, helping to build the network, adjusting the strategy of evaluation and forming a common understanding of best practice. These results will be spread in regional workshops and offered as models for schools. Parallel to this, the network wants to foster collaboration among the organizers of science camps, local companies (especially SME) and regional universities and other academic institutions. It is planned to involve stakeholders and to convince local people to support future camps. Interested persons from other countries are invited and will be informed of the results on conferences and on the projects website. Science camps provide many opportunities for young people to develop their own creative solutions for scientific and technical questions. Apart from classroom learning they help to discover own solutions, made possible through inquiry-based learning. The connection with stakeholders from companies (especially SME) and staff of academic institutions enables young people to find role models in scientists and engineers. Especially it plays a vital role for girls’ female scientists and engineers. The field of STEM provides future employment in comparable big numbers, and the lack of young people in this field is seen as a problem for the whole of Europe. Especially girls are seen to be underrepresented, so that an encouragement of girls will be rewarding. All activities in science camps are supported by ICT. Thus ICT is not only the target, but also the vehicle to acquire scientific literacy as well as ICT literacy. The pedagogy of the science camps is as well dominated by collaborative, self-steered learning, a practice seen to be necessary for future employees. The Center for the Promotion of Science is in charge of the Project’s web site (its design, content, etc) as well as work in other Work Packages (dissemination of the Project in Serbia and the region, surveys in Serbia and the region, etc.)]]>

Project description:

The rationale of V-ALERT project is to first aid towards the development of information security awareness culture (focusing mainly to children in schools and teachers) and then bridge the gap between awareness and coping (focusing on students in the field of ICT, ICT practitioners). Moreover, V-ALERT aims at providing enterprises employees and ICT users with an immersive, cost-effective and innovative virtual learning environment that will fully support life-long learning in Information Security principles. It is the consortium's strong belief that such a learning environment for information security awareness could inspire and encourage everyone to practice secure computing, because everyone - from enterprise managers to everyday ICT users - will understand that they have a vested interest in secure computing. The vision of V-ALERT is to use a uniform environment that will simulate real-life security threat scenarios, examples and counterexamples in a way that different groups of users will experience the risks and combine critical skills, knowledge and collaboration to overcome them, without exposing their organization to real risk. The end-users will be immersed in a virtual environment that will simulate real-life working or educational environments. These environments will also be enriched with relevant multimedia educational material for further comprehension of the subject. The underlying pedagogy in this approach is "learning by doing" which can enhance experiential learning, increase intrinsic motivation of learners and lead to deeper understanding and learning. Furthermore, the virtual world learning environment that will be developed in this project is going to be an on-line 24/7 educational tool which can support distant learners of different ages and provide Information Security Awareness in a way that is technological simple, pleasant, safe and cost effective. The virtual environment will provide the scenarios in a core language, but it will be easily expandable in any new language. Within the scope of the project, the in-world learning material and scenarios will be available in English (as a core language) as well as in all partner languages (Greek, Serbian, Croatian, Bulgarian). Hellenic Open University, as the coordinator of this project, has worked towards the formation of a partner consortium which would bring together experts in the area of information security awareness, high skilled developers and end-users from all areas of relative education (children, teachers, ICT students and professionals). All the selected partners have significant experience in the assigned tasks and they have gained extensive know-how through their involvement in considerable European projects and international cooperation.]]>

RRI Tools https://www.cpn.edu.rs/en/rri-tools/ https://www.cpn.edu.rs/en/rri-tools/#respond Fri, 04 Apr 2014 08:34:34 +0000 http://d.xodev.com/projects/rri-tools/ The Center for the Promotion of Science participates in RRI Tools, a new EC funded project to foster a new model for the relation between Science and Society in Europe[:]

Project description:

On 20th of January 2014, the project RRI Tools has been launched in Brussels, a three year long project funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007-2013) to foster Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Europe with a view to a harmonious and efficient relationship between science and European society. RRI is a process where all societal actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business) work together during the whole research and innovation (R&I) process in order to align its outcomes to the values, needs and expectations of European society. RRI is encompassing 6 fields relating to R&I: public engagement, formal and informal education to science, gender equality, ethics, the open access to scientific results and R&I governance itself. RRI will be central within Horizon2020 (2014-2020), the new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. As Philippe Galiay from the DG Research of the EC said at the kick off meeting: “The ‘Science with and for society’ part of Horizon 2020 is the natural evolution of the ‘Science in Society’ programme in FP7 whereas RRI is an issue cutting all across Horizon2020”. The RRI Tools project has a budget of 7 million Euros and counts with the collaboration of 26 institutions reaching 30 countries all over Europe. It will develop an innovative and creative set of tools comprising practical digital resources and actions aimed at raising awareness, training, disseminating and implementing RRI. It will be addressed and designed by all stakeholders of the R&I chain of value but will specially focus on policy makers in order to impact significantly in the future governance of R&I. Tools will be based in collective reflection and built on good RRI existing practices. RRI Tools is a collaborative and inclusive project, with the aim of increasing creativity and shared ownership of the process. Its ultimate goal is to establish a community of practice that brings together all the people and institutions that are active in this new vision of scientific and social development. “We are sure that RRI Tools will contribute to the Europe2020 strategy by helping transform Research and Innovation in Europe into a process targeted at the grand challenges of our time where deliberation with society should be a must” says Ignasi López from “la Caixa” Foundation (Spain), the project coordinator. The involvement of the different stakeholders in the process of development and dissemination of the Toolkit will be facilitated by 19 National Hubs, which will promote RRI among the different stakeholders involved at local and national level on behalf of Aleksandra Drecun, National Hub Coordinator for the Center for Promotion of Sceince, Serbia. [RRI Tools has received funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007 – 2013) under the grant agreement nº 612393] ]]>
